Our Mission

Our Mission

Our mission is to advance the rights, dignity, and opportunities of individuals with intellectual, developmental, physical, and mental health disabilities, as well as those receiving behavioral health supports, and their families.
SJAC is a coalition of individuals with disabilities and allies, including faculty, students, and community members, who are united in advocating for equitable policies grounded in human dignity and diversity. We are committed to challenging systemic injustice and promoting full inclusion in all areas of society.

A bronze medallion embedded in a sidewalk honors Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as part of "The Extra Mile – Points of Light Volunteer Pathway" in Washington, D.C. The plaque includes a relief portrait of Dr. King on the right side and engraved text describing his role in founding the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and advancing the Civil Rights Movement. It also features one of his famous quotes about standing up during times of challenge and controversy.
Six individuals sit together on a stone ledge in front of the towering Washington Monument, smiling and posing for the photo. The sky is overcast, and American flags encircle the base of the monument in the background. The group appears relaxed and united, enjoying a moment during their advocacy visit to Washington, D.C.

Our Vision

We envision a future where people with disabilities and all individuals can thrive as active, respected, and valued members of their communities, free from discrimination and ableism.

Through collaboration, education, and advocacy, we will work to ensure that equity is not just an aspiration but a lived experience where the voices, choices, and contributions of disabled people will be recognized, celebrated, and understood as essential to the strength and diversity of our society.
